Office of Advancement
The College is proud to announce that we have surpassed our campaign goal of $3,000,000. However, we continue to work hard to meet additional funding needs. As you may know, the College of Community Health Sciences and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics are committed to the development of an exceptional Sports Medicine Fellowship program named in honor of the late Dr. Patrick Lee Trammell, Sr. This program would certify resident physicians to provide state of the art care in sports medicine across the state. This program includes the funding of renovated clinic space, an endowed chair, as well as endowed faculty, fellow and administrative salaries. In April 2008, we held the dedication and grand opening of the Dr. Bill deShazo Sports Medicine Center in honor of the late Dr. Bill deShazo. “Dr. D” served as a team physician for the athletic department for many years. He served as both Residency Director and Chair of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine. “Dr. D” was loved by athletes, patients, medical students, residents, faculty and staff.
Our immediate need is to raise the necessary funds to endow a chair position so that we may begin a national search for a family physician certified in Sports Medicine. Our goal is to raise these funds by September, 2008 and accept our first fellow in Summer, 2009. There are many other exciting initiatives underway at the College. The residency office is exploring ways to increase international study opportunities, and the College continues to focus on cancer prevention and early detection. If you are interested in learning more about the Dr. Patrick Lee Trammell, Sr. Excellence in Sports Medicine Program or our other funding initiatives, please call Allison Leitner, Director of Advancement, at (205) 348-5701.
