Melissa Cox

 

Melissa Cox, Outreach Coordinator for the Rural Scholars Programs, is a Tuscaloosa native.  She graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree in Health and Human Performance and is pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Health Studies.  Melissa has worked in health education and wellness as a teacher, program coordinator, and supervisor of instructors with responsibility for scheduling, outreach, and publicity.  She also has experience in exercise physiology.  She began working with Rural Health Programs at The University of Alabama in 2000.  She presents health careers information through puppet shows in elementary schools, role-play and games for middle school students, and career planning discussions with high school students in group or individual meetings.   Melissa developed the 2007 edition of the Health Occupations Manual that is distributed to rural high schools and community colleges in rural Alabama.  She is also the Co-Director of the Black Belt Health Scholars Program.
